      Hi Xi Xuan!
Great question! I think that lots of scientists try to cure diseases because they have a personal relationship to it. My grandparents all passed away of cancer while I was in college. This ignited the drive in me to find out why- so I started to study cancer while in grad school. Then my father was diagnosed with the same cancer that killed his father- and that my brother will eventually get, prostate cancer. It made me very passionate to try and find out why this happens. I started studying genomics and heredity and why my family will eventually get these diseases. It’s a passion that continues today! I know it is a hard thing to find out but I want to know how to stop this from happening!
