Almost all the diseases I’ve discovered don’t have cures because they are so bad. Usually all we can do is treat the symptoms to make the disease less bad. Right now we are working on trying to find a medication that will reduce the number of seizures this one girl has. Seizures are when your body jerks uncontrollably for a few seconds or minutes. This one girl (she’s 13 now) I work with has over 100 seizures a day. We have a way of testing lots and lots (over 200) of medications in a lab to see if we think they’ll help before trying in her. Right now we have 2 good leads, but it will be another few months before we can try them.
