  The change of fruit fly gene function is subtle. If you were able to catch one a million years ago, and compare that to the fruit fly today, you might not notice any difference. However, fruit fly today are generally more “fit” than their ancestors, which means they can live better and have more babies : ) This is because some random changes in their genes are kept throughout time if they’re beneficial.
