I would use the $500 to support a local science summer camp! I volunteered last summer as a curriculum mentor and found them doing a great job advocating science in local communities. The kids participating are always in need of more staff scientist and science supply.

Here is a link to their website. Just check it out, they’re AWESOME!

This is in our profile. I hope it would have an impact (even if small) on the young scientific community here in San Diego.

Hi Pedro, I plan to use the prize money on the science demonstrations that I am doing at middle schools and high schools as well as museum events such as Darwin Discovery Day and National Fossil Day. So far, I was involved in the following activities as a volunteer and a scientist:

      DNA extraction from fruits,
      Code like a girl,
      Fossil hunt/ID game,
      Plants-Pollinators game,
Determining acids and bases using red cabbage juice

All these activities require some supplies like test tubes, filters and others. If I win, I plan to use the money on the supplies for these activities. With the help of these hands-on activities, I am hoping to increase students’ interest in science.

I would use the $500 to teach kids from the area I grew up in which was a really small town about science and what scientists do. Something I wish I could have experienced!

I would use the money to fund a school to come to our Brain Fair. Some schools want to come but cannot afford to rent a bus.
